A Clarification

We have recently spent a bit of time discussing heat, and techniques for riding and exercising in hot weather.  One could be forgiven for possibly gathering the impression that I don’t like high temps.  The opposite is the case.  I love warm weather, and am delighted when it is hot.  I do respect the heat.  It is necessary to take precautions and exercise prudence.

The same is true for those who claim to like the cold.  One doesn’t see them dancing naked in the chill of a deep Winter day.  Disregarding weather conditions is a sure way to a bad outcome.

All that said, I strongly prefer the heat.

On that note, it will be warm today.  It will still be quite warm when we start the Mid-Summer’s Eve Celebration Night Ride, tonight.  It will cool a bit, as it always does in the evening, and then more as the sun sets.  The end of the ride will be cooler than the beginning.  However…  It will not get cold out tonight.  If you are riding, you will not need any cool weather gear.  (I would advise bringing a rain jacket and a cap.  This is always a wise precaution in August.)

Extra water would be a good idea.  This is a very rural route, of about 40 miles.  There are no reliable services available along the way.  (There is a store in Alvaton, but we will not arrive there until after 9:00, and my experience is that it will be closed by then.)  Best advice?  Arrive at the start with an empty bladder and full bottles.
