You

Yes, you.  Pay attention.

Do you know you are something special?  You are.  You are exceptional.

Start with the obvious.  If you’re reading this, you are a cyclist, or you have an interest in cycling.  That makes you part of a tiny minority in our country.  About one half of one percent of Americans are cyclists.  So that means you are one in two hundred, right there.

Every single one of you is exceptional.  Every one of you is capable of great and amazing things.  Each of you touches lives every single day.  You know some of them, but you don’t know a lot of them.  You do it when you ride.  How do you ride?  Is it a friendly rider that you are?

I know a lot of your stories.  I am constantly amazed and awed by the way you strive, and the things you accomplish.  It is so good to be one of your number.  It is a humbling thing to be among you all.

I don’t care if you are the fastest racer, the longest rider, the toughest triathlete, or “just riding around the neighborhood with the kids.”  You are out there, and you are doing it.  Bravo!

Now salute yourselves and each other.  You are exceptional.  Never forget it.
