March: Challenging But Busy

Looks like, after our long Winter slumber, March is turning into one active month.  Yesterday was our first Audax Tune Up (more on that presently).
Upcoming this month:
  • Last of the Winter Schedule Novice Road Rides:  Sunday 13 March.  2:00 PM
  •  Last Winter Schedule Novice Mountain Bike Ride:  Sunday 20 March.  2:00 PM
  • Tour de Pike is on 19 March. (Follow this link for more info on Tour de Pike.)
  • The annual Georgia Rides to the Capitol is Tuesday 22 March.  (See this coming Wednesday’s post for more on that.)
  • Audax 45 Mile Tune Up:  Sunday 27 March.  1:00 PM
  • And there’s a lot more besides.  If you are interested in some of the other events going on, try going to the South Side Cycling Club calendar.  Not a member of the club?  Why not join now?

Audax Tune Up Ride Report:
Yesterday was the first of this year’s Audax Tune Up Rides.  It’s gratifying to report that there were six of us along for this.  The weather added a bit more challenge to the ride.  It was overcast, cool, and windy.  (Isn’t interesting that the wind can always be a headwind?)

In spite of the somewhat inauspicious weather, Chris, Bill, Scott, Dan, Steve, and I rolled out and did it.  My most hearty congratulations to all of you.  It was a tough ride, but this crew met it with aplomb and good cheer.  Yes, I heard folks remarking on the brisk, buffeting, pummeling, chilling, battering winds.  I heard that, but what I did not hear was whining.  What a great group!

In honor of the windy and chilly conditions, I cut about four miles from the route.  I don’t think anyone noticed.  Certainly no one commented on this.  If there was disappointment, it was well hidden.

Oh, and the group stayed together, enjoyed each other’s support and company, and rode with cheer, style, and grace.

De l'audace, encore de l'audace, et toujours de l'audace!
