The usual “Friday Follies” will return next week. It’s being preempted this week by the need to get this information out.
Note: If you are just getting up to speed on this, please go to the Georgia Bikes! Website. Info on the Georgia Rides to the Capitol event can be found at this link
We want a big showing at the State Capitol on March 22. It’s going to be important to have as many people, on bicycles, as possible. In the past, our Peachtree City contingent has had a very good showing. However, it is just possible that the length of the trip has been a factor that kept some from joining us. We have a solution for that. This year, we are setting working to accommodate folks who might not have the time, or the physical assets necessary to do the whole thing.
The primary ride will start at Peachtree City Hall. This will be a ride of about 35 miles one-way. Riders committing to this will be in for a day of approximately 70 miles of riding. We know that may be more than some can comfortably handle. So we have a plan…
Starting from Peachtree City, there are two options for this year’s Ride to the Capitol.
Option 1 (35 miles each way, 70 miles overall): Start with us at Peachtree City Hall. We’ll be leaving promptly at 8:00 A.M. Plan on a short stop at about 20 miles to answer nature’s call. Then onward. We’ll meet the “Remote Start” folks at a Rendezvous Point and all will ride together to the Capitol.
Option 2 (12.7 miles each way, 25.4 miles overall): You could drive (or be driven) to the en route Rendezvous Point and start from there. (Driving directions to this point are given below.) If you elect to use this option, be there, and be prepared to start your ride at 10:00 A.M. The main body of riders will be coming up the road and will stop to pick up any riders at the Rendezvous Point.
Option 2 Riders PLEASE READ the following carefully.
You must be ready to ride by 10:00 A.M. The main body will be coming to you from Peachtree City. We can not be sure precisely when we will arrive at the Rendezvous Point, but we will leave the Rendezvous Point at 10:00 A.M.
You will be able to park a car and ride to the Capitol from the Rendezvous Point. After the proceedings at the Capitol, we will ride as a group, back to the Rendezvous Point. At that point, Option 2 Riders will leave the ride and drive (or be driven) home. Option 1 Riders will continue their ride back home.
Rendezvous Point: Wayfield Foods, at 3435 Roosevelt Highway.
