Getting ON with it

Spin Class is packed away for another year.  Sure, we’ll still be hitting the “hamster bike,” rollers and stationary trainers, for a while yet, but formal classes are done.  More, we just rode the last of the Winter Schedule Novice Road Rides on Sunday.  Things have started to bloom.  Migratory birds are returning.  We’ve pretty well wrapped Winter.  It’s time!

Possibly the first big ride, and certainly one of the most important, is the upcoming Georgia Rides to the Capitol.  Below is an update on that ride.

UPDATE Georgia Rides to the Capitol:
It’s just over a week until we do this.
Date: is Tuesday 22 March.
Start Point: Peachtree City Library
Departure Time:  0800

We need to do some organizing.  This looks like it’s going to be a fairly large group.  To ensure that we all arrive safely, we will split the group into two or three smaller elements.  We’ll maintain spacing between these smaller groups.  This will allow traffic to get around us, and will facilitate our movement through traffic signals.  When we near the Capitol, we’ll join all of the smaller group elements and proceed as one large mass ride.

We have an urgent need for assistant ride leaders! We’d like to have a leader at the front and back of each group.
We would also like to have two or three SAG drivers (preferably with trucks).  Please contact me at The.road.dragon@gmail.com if you are willing to take one of these tasks on.   I will need to brief you, and the “morning of” is a bit late and hectic for that.

GENERAL RULES
1) The goal is to ride to the capitol AS A GROUP!!! This is a LONG, DIFFICULT and
URBAN route! Once we reach US-29 there will be lots of traffic and many stop lights. We will ride through areas many of you would not normally drive through, much less ride.
We WILL....
            Start together
            Stay together
            Stick together!!!!!

2) Meet at the PTC Government Center (the Library) at the corner of 54 and Willow
Bend.

3) Arrive in time for an 8:00AM mass briefing and 8:15AM Departure!!!

4) Bring MONEY for food/drink. (Or pack food with you.)  We may have stuff in the SAG vehicle but be prepared! We will stop where you can buy things. There IS NO MEAL.

5) Park in the parking lot used for Tri-athlons, past the library and down near the lake.

6) Rendezvous by the fountain out front, close to 54.

7) The pace will be SLOW. No Hammerheads! No muscleheads! If we arrive in split
groups the effect of our participation is diminished. Show our unity and strength!
            STAY TOGETHER!!

8) In order to insure we are all together at the start and finish we will use the BUDDY SYSTEM. Form groups of 2 or 3 riders, and watch for each other. Prior to departure, both from PTC and the Capitol you will be asked if all are present. They are asking about YOU and YOUR BUDDIES!! Let's not leave anyone behind!

9) We will be stopping at a Wayfield Foods at 24 miles to pick up anyone who wants to
start closer to the Capitol. There are also rest rooms and food. THIS WILL BE THE
FINAL STOP AND RENDEZVOUS POINT.

10) At the Capitol, STAY TOGETHER!! If you must leave the group, make sure your
BUDDY knows and vouches for you. There are port-o-potties but the lines are long!

11) Following the event at the Capitol, we will meet by the "Ride to the Capitol" banner
and take a head-count. At this point.... you may CHOOSE to leave individually IF YOU
WISH. The rest will return together.
